Bean Pie is originally an African American Muslims tradition. Bean pies are made out of Navy bean, sugar, eggs, milk, butter, and other spices. The Bean Pie was originally processed from Brooklyn, New York. They consider Bean Pie as an Eastern dish made in 1930s. Navy Beans are originally from Peru, Bean Pie was made to replace sweet potato pie. Some say that Bean Pie is better than Pumpkin Pie. Such celebrities as Queen Latifah liked Bean Pie much better than any other pies in America. 

The selling of Bean Pies in some inner cities cleaned the block out. Instead of people buying drugs and other substances they bought Bean Pies instead. Bean Pies started as a family business thing for Muslims in New York City. A fun fact about Bean Pies is that its apart of an African American Muslim story. The African American Muslim also created Bean Soup around the same time as Bean Pie. Women took M.G.T (Muslims Girls Training) which helps women learn to clean, cook among other things. They also learned to cook Bean Pie which is why it is important, If you ever go to New York City and think about trying Their famous Bean Pie go to 1184 Fulton St. Brooklyn New York.

The Bean Pie Experience

Bean pies was the only Muslim dish created back then. The bean pies were supposed to be better than sweet potato pies. The recipe was kept a secret until the 1930's. The only people who know the recipe is the M.G.T. The Mighty M.G.T which stands for (Muslim Girl Training). The girls were trained to know the recipe. Bean pies are originally a "Black" Muslim dish. It was famous back in the day, even Malcolm X talked about it. Guess what guys??Ice Cube said in his song, you know how big bean pies were? Bean pies are made with white navy beans. White navy beans are from Peru. The pies were made in 1930. It is considered a replica of the sweet potato pie. Bean pies was meant to replace sweet potato pies. The shop that makes some very good Bean pies is in Brooklyn, New York.

Bean Pies Are Not Bad As It Sounds.  

I went to New York to talk to Abu about their bean pies. First, he was telling us how there is a 90-year legacy on bean pies. Their bean pies are trying to taste better than sweet potato pies. They are the last bakery to make bean pies. He started talking how the Nation of Islam's bean pie's is simply the best in the world. People used to make music about bean pies. In the 1980’s. They stopped people from selling drugs because they went on the streets and started selling bean pies rather than drugs. He started talking about how nobody can have the recipe for the bean pies they have to keep that a secret to have the legacy keep going. They have been selling bean pies for more than 100 years. My Trip To New York For Bean Pies

I traveled to New York and talk to Abu about their bean pies. He told us how there is a legacy about their bean pies. He started talking about how their pie Recipe was a secret and nobody can know about it only the people who make them. He started talking about the history behind bean pies. In the 1980's they started going out on the streets and started selling bean pies instead of Drugs. ice cube mentioned bean pies in His music. The History of The Nation of Islam And It's Bean Pie

Bean pie was made in 1930 by an African American Muslim man named Elijah Muhammad. Elijah Muhammad was born on Oct 7, 1897, in Sandersville GA. Mr. Muhammad's real name was Elijah Poole before he joined Islam in 1931. Mr. Muhammad became the founder of the Nation of Islam. Unfortunately, The Nation of Islam would be hit with bad news on February 25, 1975. Their founder Elijah Muhammad had sadly passed away. Elijah set a good example for his fellow people and was loved by everyone. Now that you know about the creator of bean pie let's get back into talking about that.

Bean pie is made of mashed beans, usually navy bean, sugar, eggs, milk, butter and spices. Bean pie comes from a foreign bean called navy beans. Navy beans originated in Peru 1775. Now you may ask why do people like bean pie? What does bean pie even look like? People like bean pie because bean pie is a better replica of pumpkin and sweet potato pie. People also say that bean pie is a healthier dessert. One baker spot that I have heard of is called Abu’s bakery. Abu’s bakery is a local family-owned business bakery located on 1184 Fulton St, Brooklyn, NY 11216. Abu's bakery was founded in 2000 by Idris Corry and rebranded in 2010, Fun fact bean pies helped get rid of a lot of drug dealing off the streets because instead of selling drugs you can sell bean pies.

Bean pie is similar to sweet potato pie. It was invented in Maysville, Kentucky and it’s a very good Muslim dish that was also made for a substitute for the sweet pie.

The Islamic Bean Pie

The navy bean pie. Also called bean pie is rooted from the controversial nation of Islam, a black nationalist and social-reform movement, and were also invented in 1930.

Navy beans originated in Peru, several thousands of years ago. They did acquire their name with the help of the U.S Navy. Dried navy beans have a super-long shelf life, are from a low cost and have lots of proteins & nutrients. The bean pie became a regular ration for the U.S Sailors on navy warships. Navy beans also used to have a few different names such as Haricot, Pear haricot beans, and many more.

Here’s some things a bean pie consists of, mashed navy beans, sugar, eggs, milk, butter & spices. Common spices could be vanilla, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Baked at 425 degrees for 15 minutes you should have a nice bean pie. Explaining the taste of a bean pie to someone who’s never had one, it would taste like a sweet potato pie, or pumpkin pie. Not many people eat bean pies like they used to, but muslims keep the tradition/history of them alive. Yes people around the world still make these bean pies, but mostly Muslims hold the history.

One conspiracy behind the beans' vigorous symbolism is that it doesn’t only use Muhammed’s beloved navy beans, but it was also believed to use them as a good replacement for sweet potatoes. But it isn't just Muslims that still eat this dish, People around the world eat this too. 

Abu’s bakery is one of the places that still offers an authentic navy bean pie.

Muslims would call easily accessible foods such as white flour, pork, peas, sweet potatoes, collard greens a poor man's food or meal.

Islam's eating code is quite particular, another description of unallowed foods is an article from Julianne Glatz talking about the bean pies in Chicago. “People are to only eat once a day, or once every two to three days is even better but with nothing, no water between meals. Going back to islam’s eating code though, Pork is haram (forbidden, Unlawful) meat is alright (Hamburgers, tacos, etc.) 

Islam’s Eating code doesn’t only involve foods but vegetables as well. Here's a list of forbidden vegetables. Peas, Nuts, white or sweet potatoes, collard or turnip greens, or kale. Cabbage is exceptional only if you eat the white leaves, the green are not. A tiny bit of spinach is okay, wheat bread is too as long as it is toasted or dried, stale isn't a thing with Islam. Cornbread or pancakes are also not allowed. 

Muhammed loved his dried beans as long as they were small like navy beans, but disliked lima & soybean because of the richness. Bean pies can still be found for sale by street vendors in areas like Chicago, Baltimore, Philadelphia, & New York. There could possibly be a bean pie shop opening up in a cafe in downtown L.A, so watch for it. The Trees on San Pedro street project will give you more information about this cafe.

The Amazing Bean Pie

The bean pie is a very great sweet side dish, created by Muslim's and is almost like sweet potato pie. It was created out of the hands of a Muslim. The pie started in the 1930s, this pie is an important product of Black American and Ameri-can Muslim culture that influence family histories. A slice of bean pie is pretty healthy to eat, it has fewer calories and sugar while offering more protein and fiber. The bean pie is usually made with canned navy beans, evaporated milk, and sugar, it is similar to pumpkin pie as well. Some people use different ingredients for the pie like, mash potatoes, butter, and spices added. The bean pie will always have the same ingredients even if some people add things to it. It will forever be a Black muslim originated pie, personally I Think the pie is very good. It deserves 10 stars and the pie i ate is located at 1184 Fulton st in Brooklyn, New york.
