 Spotlight Of The Month

Our previous security guard is no longer with Knights Protective Services inc. (which is the company that we get our security guard services from). As a result, Tylund Williams is now our number one security guard here at Akron Career Tech. He's been here off and on, since the beginning of the new year/semester. Some of his favorite things to do is to visit the gun range, take one tank trips and listen to good music. He said that the number one thing about being here at Akron Career Tech is being able to interact and build a safe environment with the students and staff.

Celebrating Women History Month

Comments From A Few Students

In the month of March A.C.T celebrated Women History Month and the Woman Suffrage Movement. 9th grade also watched a movie called "Till" by Chinonye Chukwu in which they learned about how a suffering mother overcame with losing her son to a brutal beating and dumped into a river and sent back to her in a box and how she used her connections in the NAACP to speak out about her son. They were also taught about some women who participated in the women rights movement like Elizabeth Cady Stone, Mamie till-Mobily, Harriet Tubman, Lucretia Mott, Lucy Stone, Sojourner Truth and Alice Paul. Not only did they learn about them they learned about women that made a difference in the Akron area such a Judy Resnick who was the fourth women to fly to space or Kani Hightower who is the first black judge of summit county's domestic relations court. We apricate these woman and so many more for their hard work and dedication

Jacari Adams

We talked about The Women's Suffrage MovementJudith Resnik graduated from Firestone High School and died after the spaceship Challenger exploded shortly after take off. Mammy Till wanted people to see what happened to her son Emitt Till. Sojourner Truth said a powerful speech "Ain't I A Women" in Akron Ohio. We also talked about Harriet Tubman who freed the slaves using the under ground railroad.

Kyrell Smith

Here at ACT during the month of March we talked about women and their history and how they fought for their rights over the years. We also learned about many fantastic women like Mrs. Ida B Wells, Lucretia Mott, Lucy Stone and Sojourner Truth and their importance to women's history month and their contributions to this month. There are many other amazing women who we talked about and many others who fought for their rights so they can be equal to men.

February & March 2025

As we look forward to yet another fun filled and successful month here at Akron Career Tech High school, I would like to take the time to highlight some of the great things that took place here during the month of February. First I would like to thank our staff and students for buckling down during this month's testing. Their collective efforts made everything run smoothly. Also, I would like to thank all of the staff that assisted with helping the CNA (certified nurses assistant) students to get their certification for this year. We are so proud of these eleven students. Some have already put their certification to work by obtaining employment in the field. As you know, February is the year's shortest month but offers so many things to do and observe. Here at Akron Career Tech High School we acknowledged this year's Valentine's Day with an "end of the day" celebration filled with Valentine themed snacks and goodies.

Last but not least, February is also Black History Month. We kicked Black History Month off by starting a Black History "Wall of Fame". Students were encouraged to look up information regarding influential African Americans and their many contributions that
ultimately helped shape this country. Our Media Arts Class took this past month to put together a (school wide) production called A Black History Month Celebration Podcast which  can been seen on this blogsite. And to end the month with a bang! We had The BLUE Group of Minority Behavior Health stop by to educate our students about the musical legacy of the African American experience.

January 2025

Our Intervention Specialist is Flic Masters, the new Dean is Shawn Cooper, and history teacher Abigail Engle. At this time I would like to wish everyone a safe and prosperous new year. December 2024

Monthly Newsletter
From The Principle's Desk

As we enter the holiday season, we are thankful for the many things that our students and staff are accomplishing everyday. This past Thanksgiving our staff took the initiative by blessing a few families within our community. Those families were donated much needed resources and food to help ensure a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday. I believe that it is these kind of efforts and our continued comment to community that makes Akron Career Tech so special. Regarding how we're gonna make this holiday season/December special for our students, we will be showing a few holiday movies throughout the month. We believe a festive environment during these times are conducive to student moral and the overall learning experience. Inclosing, Christmas break starts December 26 through January 6th, 2025. Myself and the entire Akron Career Tech High School, wish everyone have a happy holiday season.

Food Business and Service

The Culinary Arts program had two showcases with Media Arts and

more. The first showcase was a project where we got to make food trucks. We glued,

painted, put wheels on it, and created our own food designs. My group name was Soul Food Delights. We made a menu, then we had to do our paperwork. After the class finished, we came over to the Media Arts program and we showed off our food trucks. We told them about the menu and how we made our business. Then everybody voted for Paress and she won.

For the second showcase, we went around the school and fed the teachers broccoli and cheddar soup. We were training to properly serve people and give them their food, bowl, silverware, and napkins with a side of crackers. The teachers rated us on our presentations. By the way, there's a video that features both showcases as well as myself.

Career week at Akron Career Tech

Ty, Mrs. Simmons & News Broadcaster
George Carter
This past November 2024 Akron Career Tech had a career week. There were a lot of speakers. The speakers were motivational speakers. How did that affect the students at Akron Career Tech? It affected the students in a positive way because some students aren't sure what to do after they graduate high school. The speakers motivated them to go to college after high school. They said that there are other ways to succeed. There are multiple ways you can create A business. There are a lot of things you can motivate yourself to do. When you want to motivate yourself, make sure it’s positive to keep yourself going. Also, don't let someone else bring you down. In closing, the main thing that was said by all the speakers was to always stay positive!! Sometimes all you need is yourself. Believe in yourself and believe that you will. Stay positive and don't let somebody bring you down.

Homecoming 2024

On Saturday, October the 12th, the Akron Career Tech High School had a homecoming event. This year's homecoming dance featured good food such as pizza, chicken and jojo's. The event also had drinks like cotton candy, lemon & lime and orange sodas. Everyone was dancing and having the time of their lives. Tenth graders Izzy and Zion won
Zion & Izzy
homecoming king and queen. We are looking forward to the next year's homecoming event.
Although, there should've been a DJ, better music, and more decorations to this year's event. We are hoping for an even better homecoming dance next year.

The Us Army Invades Akron Career Tech High School

Here at Akron Career Tech High School, today we had two U.S Army veterans come into the Akron Career Tech building and talk about how & why they got into the military. Most importantly they talked about what they've done in the military. Officer Rodrick A. Midgett recently stationed in Canton, Ohio said he was happy to be apart of the North Eastern Ohio community. It was a cool experience and they were down to earth people. At this time I'd like to thank Mr. Epps (our Media Arts teacher) for making this happen.
