It's been a long cold winter and we here at Akron Career Tech are excited about the spring season and all that comes with it. Of-course were excited about the possibility of warmer weather and longer days but were really excited about all of the positive possibilities. Last month we celebrated Women History Month by acknowledging some impactful women of the past and present. This month our students are currently working to complete their state testing. We're excited to be hosting the 2025 Amazing Shake State Competition on Thursday May 8th. Starting April 30th and through out May we will be partnering with OSU Extensions to provide our students with a financial literacy program called "Real Money Real World". Lastly, spring break begins April 18th-April 27th with Students returning April 28th.

Spotlight Of The Month
Our previous security guard is no longer with Knights Protective Services inc. (which is the company that we get our security guard services from). As a result, Tylund Williams is now our number one security guard here at Akron Career Tech. He's been here off and on, since the beginning of the new year/semester. Some of his favorite things to do is to visit the gun range, take one tank trips and listen to good music. He said that the number one thing about being here at Akron Career Tech is being able to interact and build a safe environment with the students and staff.Featured Staff Member

Celebrating Women History Month
In the month of March A.C.T celebrated Women History Month and the Woman Suffrage Movement. 9th grade also watched a movie called "Till" by Chinonye Chukwu in which they learned about how a suffering mother overcame with losing her son to a brutal beating and dumped into a river and sent back to her in a box and how she used her connections in the NAACP to speak out about her son. They were also taught about some women who participated in the women rights movement like Elizabeth Cady Stone, Mamie till-Mobily, Harriet Tubman, Lucretia Mott, Lucy Stone, Sojourner Truth and Alice Paul. Not only did they learn about them they learned about women that made a difference in the Akron area such a Judy Resnick who was the fourth women to fly to space or Kani Hightower who is the first black judge of summit county's domestic relations court. We apricate these woman and so many more for their hard work and dedication

Mammy Till wanted people to see what happened to her son Emitt Till. Sojourner Truth said a powerful speech "Ain't I A Women" in Akron Ohio. We also talked about Harriet Tubman who freed the slaves using the under ground railroad.

Here at ACT during the month of March we talked about women and their history and how they fought for their rights over the years. We also learned about many fantastic women like Mrs. Ida B Wells, Lucretia Mott, Lucy Stone and Sojourner Truth and their importance to women's history month and their contributions to this month. There are many other amazing women who we talked about and many others who fought for their rights so they can be equal to men.
